
Thomas Jeffrey Hanks (born July 9 1956) is an American actor and film maker. He is famous for his dramatic and comedy roles and is considered to be an American cultural icon. Thomas Jeffrey Hanks was a Concord, California native to Janet Marylyn Hanks, a hospital worker and Amos Mefford Hanks an itinerant cook. His mother was initially named "Fraga" while his father was English. Tom grew up in what he describes as"a "fractured" family. He didn't have any acting experience prior to college. This is the reason that helped him start his career. He went downtown, and auditioned for a community production of a theater, and was then given an invitation by the director that play to go to Cleveland, and there his acting career was born.
